The very earliest signs of Autumn are blossoming in my neck of the woods. Nights are getting colder, the leaves are tinged with fall color, and I’m greeted with a chill when I step outside in the mornings.
The first frost has already come, ensuring that change is just around the corner. Sweaters and cardigans are calling to me from the back of my closest, my morning cup of coffee has been transformed by autumn spices, and pumpkins grace the fireplace mantle.
There are so many opportunities for memories to be made in this lovely season. And with that in mind, I’ve compiled an autumn bucket list with an author-ly twist.
1. Write In A Coffee Shop

For one of your writing sessions, pack up your computer or notebook and head to a local coffee shop. Order a hot drink and immerse yourself in the atmosphere around you.
2. Write Autumn In The Form Of A Character

Ever wondered what Autumn would be like if it were a person? Would it be a fiery redhead or an earth-tone brunette? Would it be the dark moody type or a mischievous prankster? Would its favorite drink be a pumpkin spice latte or apple cider?
3. Pack A Picnic And Write Where The Trees Are Golden

A wicker picnic basket, checkered blanket, fiery leaves, and a story to write. What better combo could there be?
4. Wear An Autumn Outfit Inspired By Your MC

What would your Main Character wear on a chilly autumn day? Take your inspiration from them and put together an autumn outfit to match.
5. Handwrite A Scene While Curled Up In A Blanket

Pick a cozy blanket to wrap up in, pull out your favorite notebook, and get that scene down on paper.
6. Brainstorm Under A Canopy Of Stars

Autumn is the perfect time to spend the evening stargazing. It’s even better for brainstorming. Which means it’s the perfect combo.
7. Write A Scene Set In Autumn

One thing I’ve learned on this crazy writing journey is that you’ve got to write when the inspiration is there. Which means that sometimes you end up writing scenes that have nothing to do with your current WIP.
But that’s okay, because one day that scene will find a place in a project, and the fervor of inspiration will shine through.
So go write that autumn scene that you’ve had swirling in your mind!
8. Enjoy An Autumn Scented Candle While Writing

Candles just make things so cozy. So pick your favorite fall scent and enjoy its aroma while you write.
What is on your Autumn Bucket List? I would love to hear!
