A Timeless Anchor in Changing Times

Hello, friends!

Today I thought that we would delve into a topic that I have actually had a lot of people ask me about.

A common question that I get asked when people find out that I enjoy studying America’s wars (especially World War Two), is “How can you enjoy studying times that were so dark and filled with hate, fighting, and evil?”

Now, I know what you are thinking. The above question makes total sense. After all, why would anyone actually enjoy studying war? Am I right?

But before you jump on that band wagon, just hear me out.

In answer to that question, I have to say that I don’t love to study war, hate, and fighting. It isn’t these things at all that draw me to these time periods.

The things that draw me to these time frames are the roses hidden among the thorns. The moonbeams that break through the storm clouds of war. The glimmers of light that chase away the shadows.

I love to study the beautiful things that somehow managed to grow in spite of the darkness and evil of the time.

I love studying the people who were courageous enough to stand for truth and freedom. The ones who found ways to do good in spite of the evil that was enveloping the world.

I love reading the stories of God’s grace shining through in spite of cruel situations; the stories that show that even in the darkest situations, there are still beautiful things in this world and they are worth fighting for!

I love the stories that reveal even in the most heartbreaking of times, God’s love can still reach us.

“Seeking The Timeless Anchor” is more than just my blog name. It is what I do as I study history. It is what all of us should do all through our lives.

Through the thousands of years since the creation of the world, only one thing has remained the same — The Timeless Anchor.

“Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” ~Hebrews 13:8

I love that verse so much! Isn’t it amazing to think of how he has remained steadfast throughout the ages? In a world that is always changing, He always remains the same.

This is my challenge to all of you today and in this coming year ( I can hardly believe it is 2022 already!) —Seek The Timeless Anchor.

Seek Him in your everyday life. Seek Him when it seems like you can’t find Him, because he never leaves us or forsakes us. If you can’t find him, then you aren’t looking in the right places. He is there beside you all the way!

That is enough rambling for now. 😉

Do you enjoy looking for those things throughout history? Maybe you need to seek The Timeless Anchor more this year.

Please comment and let me know down below!

  1. Alyssa, this was just so beautiful and so well-said! Seeing God’s truth and His light overcome all darkness and lies is what makes a story beautiful for me (whether it’s historical or fictional). And we can do the same right now in a very dark world – for He is always good and faithful.

    I love this! 🙂

    • How true! We need to remember to “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
It is awesome to see God’s hand in “HIS-story” and I need to remind myself often that He is still with us today!

    • Aww, thank you so much, Vanessa! Yes, that is what makes stories beautiful for me as well.
It is certainly a dark world we live in, but we can shine as lights for Him even in the midst of it!❤️
