Plead For Mercy

If you hadn’t already guessed, I have a patriot’s heart that bleeds the colors of my nation’s flag. (Yeah, it probably comes as a shocker to most of you, I know.)

From the time that I was a child, I knew that America would always have a special place in my heart. Those who know me well know that America is who I am. It’s in my blood, my lineage, my heritage. They know that my entire being swells with pride when I see Old Glory waving proudly, and although it hasn’t been officially proven, we’re all pretty sure my heart beats the rhythm of the Star Spangled Banner. 😉

These are all great things, and I hope that if you’re an American this can be said of you too. Really though, is it enough to be impassioned with patriotic fervor, yet do nothing about it?

What are you doing for your country? As a woman, there is only so much I can do and still be in the role that the Bible has set before me. I’m not called to hold political office or take up arms in our military. So then the question could be asked, what can we do as women who are seeking to see our nation change its course?

Plead for Mercy

Prayer. It’s a secret weapon unlike anything else the world has ever seen. Look down through the centuries and storms of time, and you will see instances when God’s hand has moved because God’s people prayed.

Do I need to remind you of the time in America’s own history when we were teetering on the brink of destruction, and God’s people fell to their knees in humility and pleaded for mercy? I talked about it earlier this year. If you didn’t get a chance to read it, you can check it out here.

As the people prayed and fasted, a tremendous storm rose up and the sea became a violent tumult. The end result was America’s salvation from the hands of the enemy who would most assuredly have destroyed every inch of her. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that prayer doesn’t hold the same power now that it did back then.

This may seem redundant, because we hear it all the time. But the truth of the matter is, prayer is our greatest weapon. Yet, we often undermine its strength and fail to use it as often as we should. Then we wonder why America is crumbling before our eyes.

Over and over again in the Bible, we are admonished to spend time in prayer and fasting. I think if we could get a full handle on that, perhaps we could see revival in our country. I’m talking to myself here too, because I know that there are times when my prayer life fails terribly. I’m ashamed to say it, but it’s true. Now isn’t the time to be apathetic though!

Our election is just around the corner. America is seeing some of the darkest days we have ever seen before. In the words of Thomas Paine, “These are the times that try men’s souls.”

Darkness is rising in a manner it has never before been able to accomplish. Believers are watching silently as our America is brought to her demise. We talk big about political matters and how terrible things are going in our country, but what are we doing about it?

Look around you, ladies! Wickedness runs rampant, God’s people are staying quiet, and prayer is being neglected. Why is it so hard for us to understand then why America is seeing record breaking portions of the country in severe drought (up to 55% of the contingent US right now), hurricanes that are demolishing entire cities, wildfires burning out of control, and flooding destroying homes and crops around the country? God’s judgment is coming down on our nation, and it’s no wonder. Christians have stayed silent too long, and now we are paying the price.

I don’t think we’ve seen the full extent of God’s judgement on us though. In fact, what is happening in our country right now is, I believe, God being merciful to us and holding back the full extent of his wrath. But don’t let that make you become complacent. Now isn’t the time to be lulled into sleep by the apathy around us.

These are the days to be courageous! Someone has to intercede on behalf of our country. Who is going to do it if you don’t?

Ladies, we can fight for our country by being the prayer warriors we should be. We have the privilege of being able to go directly to the Maker of the universe. In those moments where your heart is overwhelmed with a burden for our nation, yet you feel helpless, cry out to God! Beg Him to fight on your behalf in our nation. Plead fervently for His mercy to cover us; for repentance and revival to sweep our land.

We as women are not helpless in defense of our dear America! The wicked are fighting to destroy her. We must be fighting to preserve her.

God hears the prayers of his servants. The Bible tells us that the prayers of God’s people can change things drastically. We hold the ear of the Master of all Nations. It’s time to humble ourselves and beg for his mercy upon us.

This is my challenge to you: Spend a concerted time of prayer this week beseeching God to intervene on behalf of our country.

•Pray for repentance in the hearts of our countrymen

•Pray for wisdom in voting

•Pray for mercy

•Pray that God’s hand would remove those from office who are wicked and seeking to destroy our nation

•Pray for God to raise up men in our government who will boldly stand for righteousness

•Pray for revival

•Pray that God would raise up strong churches around our country to preach His Word

To help you remember to pray, I’ve designed a free printable bookmark for your use! It is perfect for keeping in your Bible to have a visual reminder to pray fervently for America. You’ll notice that it has two different designs, so you can either put them back to back, or just use the one that you like the best.

Will you join me in fervently praying?

  1. Thank you for this post! It’s so easy to get discouraged and to think that as women we can’t do anything to help our country… but prayer is so powerful!!! Thank you for the exhortation to pray fervently this week!

  2. Dear Alyssa
Hello from the UK. Many thanks for your post.
You might not have thought of this but I have had it mind for a while. Revelation 19 v.17 talks about the birds gathering in mid-heaven. These are carrion eaters or birds of prey.
In British slang a ‘bird’ is a female.
    Prey sounds like pray.
So I think it is time for the birds, the females, the ladies, to rise up and pray and claim their inheritance as children of God!!!
Let those who have ears to hear let them hear.
    Kind regards

Please excuse the nom-de-plume, this is as much for fun as a riddle for people to solve if they wish.
