An Old Fashioned Spring

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. Everything is coming alive and new. It reminds me of the new life we have in Christ when we are born again. He removes the practices and lifestyle of the old man, and replaces them with the beauty of new life in Him.

“Thereforeย if any manย beย inย Christ,ย he isย aย newย creature: oldย thingsย are passed away;ย behold,ย allย thingsย are becomeย new.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

This spring was, in many ways, a time of healing from the burdens and trials of this winter. It held its difficulties, for sure. But sprinkled throughout, I was reminded of how great our God is. It’s all around us. Our lives are living testaments to God’s power, mercy, and grace.

We can either choose to ignore his grace that is written everywhere, or we can choose to count the reminders that tell us He is still good, no matter what we think of life.

Here are some of the gorgeous ways that God reminded me, this spring, that He is still God.

God’s goodness is found in the vibrant bouquets we place on our tables. Elegant tea sets, accented with blooms. Celebrating the glory of Jesus’ resurrection. Sharing memories with sisters. Sunshine that unleashes its warmth on you.

It’s seen in the very first sprigs of green that pop out of the ground, shouting to the world that there is hope to break free from winter’s harsh grip. Soil finally uncovered from the snowy blanket of winter. The first robin of spring, come back to grace our lives with music.

Glowing sunsets display His mercy. We are so unworthy to be granted the privilege to revel in the majesty of His creation. The very fact that we are given that ability, tells us He loves us. Standing still and being reminded that your God is greater than any mountain you will face. He is stronger than any enemy you will fight. And He is better than any earthly gain you could dream of having.

Delicate blossoms that erupt from the muted months of late winter. Walking and breathing in the air so fresh and clean that nothing could beat it. Hearing the crickets chirping. Meadowlarks and robins singing their songs.

Explosions of color displayed in the blossoms of tree branches. Lilies and rabbits, and yes, even the intricate design of dandelions. (Some call them weeds, but they still attest in powerful ways to the Master Designer’s skill.)

Evening skies swept with hues of blue and pink. Peaceful calm that reminds us to stand still and know that He is God.

Seeing the Aurora Borealis dancing and pulsing in the sky. Gazing in awe at the display of God’s power in the night sky.

Raindrop days. Walking in the rain. Taking in a deep breath of the sweet smell a thunderstorm brings. Watching the birds play in the puddles. Listening to them praise The Creator.

Days spent with family by your side. Celebrating the victories. Praying over the defeats. Relishing this crazy, beautiful life that God has granted me to live.

Spring has come and gone, but my God’s grace has not. He carries us each step of our lives, through the storms, the times of calm, the times of change. He is sufficient for all our needs.

“It is ofย the LORD’Sย merciesย that we are not consumed, because his compassionsย failย not. They areย newย every morning:ย greatย isย thy faithfulness.”
