D-Day 80th Anniversary Special Announcement!

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the day that turned the tides of the Second World War. In honor and memory, I am excited to announce that Seeking The Timeless Anchor is hosting a week of D-Day commemorations.

The kickoff will start on June 1st and continue right up to June 6th. I am super excited for the various posts that will be featured on the blog, as well as the brand-new D-Day designs that will be released very soon in my shop! More details will be coming a little later on.

Today, however, I want to share a very important part of the commemoration with you.

You see, we can celebrate the liberation that D-Day brought to France, and subsequently the rest of Europe, all we want. We can study the ins and outs of every miraculous detail surrounding the invasion. We can know the numbers involved in the battle — the amount of ships, planes, soldiers, etc.

But without the individual men who made it happen, what are we commemorating? Without the thousands of soldiers who participated — American, Canadian, British, French — there would’ve been no D-Day. Liberation would’ve never come to France, and the world as we know it would not exist.

I believe a fundamental part of teaching and remembering any historical event is found in putting faces to the numbers. When people see the faces and names of the soldiers who risked it all for freedom, they are more apt to recognize just how much we owe them. Seeing them as individual people with hopes, fears, dreams, and futures brings things into perspective that otherwise would be forgotten.

That’s why Seeking The Timeless Anchor is putting together a special virtual commemoration honoring the individual soldiers who participated in D-Day.

I can’t do it without your help though!

Do you know of someone who took part in D-Day? Perhaps a family member or someone you know of through friends or acquaintances?

Honor their service by submitting a photograph of them for our virtual commemoration!

The commemoration is open to ALL those who served during Operation Overlord with the Allied nations.

Even if you don’t personally know of a D-Day participant, I encourage you to share about our commemoration everywhere you can! Post about it on your social media. Share the link with friends and family, and encourage them to pass it on to everyone they know. If you have a blog and would like to share about the commemoration through your platform, go for it!

We want to honor as many D-Day participants as possible! They deserve to be recognized for the tremendous role they played in keeping freedom alive.

So here’s your mission — Go spread the word!

  1. Amongst today’s younger generation I wonder if most of them realize how important this day was and how different the world be if it had failed. Many of them may never have heard of Operation Overlord. I know scrolling through Tic Toc and/ or social media seems more exciting than history, but the timeless stories of bravery, selflessness, honor and patriotism found in the pages of history such as this can’t be beat!
I am excited to see your posts commemorating this event.
One of my grandfathers was there that day.
