3 Ways History Is Becoming a Thing of The Past

Okay, no pun intended in the title. Just had to throw that out there.

But it’s a valid argument that History is becoming lost to the raging waves of time. How though? I’m glad you asked.

1. Cancel Culture

The number one thing that I see as being a reason for History becoming lost to time, is that the Cancel Culture movement is strategically waging a war against it. Yes, you read that correctly. We live in a world where people are shaming children about their history and heritage, and it is drastically affecting our children’s minds. Those who would dare stand against the Cancel Culture attacks, are afraid to do so for fear of being labeled a racist or a radical.

I recently was part of a discussion over a school book that, upon studying how the Confederate Battle flag was racist, proceeded to ask the student to explain why it was in fact racist. It didn’t ask the student to think it through for themselves and determine if they thought it was racist. No, they told the student it was, and then made them explain why. This is the epitome of what is wrong with our culture.

How are our children ever going to be prepared to stand against evil if they are never taught to think for themselves in matters such as these? Critical thinkers keep freedom alive. Whereas a generation that has been regulated to blindly obey and follow those in charge, will only breed tyranny.

Thomas Jefferson said it this way,

“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people. They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”

Those behind Cancel Culture know full well that when a generation of individuals is raised without being taught to think for themselves it is far easier to enslave them. Why do you think during time periods like the Dark Ages it was not common for people to be taught how to read and write? It was to make them more easily enslaved. Why do you think that in countries around the world when slavery was lawful (and yes, I’m talking about other countries too. Slavery was not exclusive to America.) it was more often than not against the law for a slave to know how to read and write? It’s because ignorance enslaves.

By shaming children about their history and heritage, we are essentially telling them not to study history. That’s not right! History must be taught and studied if we are ever to maintain our freedom and integrity. I will be the first to admit that History carries things that are very hard to teach and study. There have always been and always will be things in the past that are horrible. But shaming children over history is not the way to handle the tough topics that arise. These topics have to addressed or they will be repeated.

Teachers who shame children about their heritage as an American, are doing a great disservice to themselves, which is what we’re going to talk about next.

2. Lack of Patriotism

Patriotism within our ranks of young people is drastically dwindling. Why? Because we have stopped teaching American History in our schools.

History and patriotism are intertwined closely. You can’t separate the two. Now, I realize that not everyone is a total history buff like some of us are. However, history plays a vital role in breeding patriotism within Americans.

“If you wish to stop tyranny, start teaching American history again.”

Anonymus

When children understand the proud heritage with which we have been blessed, they will then fully understand why it is important to be a patriot. They will begin to understand that, while America has had her faults and failures, she is still the greatest country in the world and is worth living, fighting, and dying for.

“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.”

John Adams

We don’t have to teach them that they need to always agree with our government or its officials, but we do need to teach them to stand by their country. Without the influence of history, how will children understand why they need to be a patriot?

I understand that as believers we also need to teach them how to humble themselves before God and confess the sins of our nation before Him, recognizing that we are a sinful people. But there is a balance between those who would say we have nothing to be proud of, and then those who say we are perfect.

It’s from studying and learning about the sacrifices made by the patriots at Valley Forge, the courage of the heroes who held the flag up in the battle for Fort McHenry, the determination of the Confederate soldiers fighting for their Constitutional rights, and the free spirit of the pioneers who carved the way to the west that breeds into us an indomitable sense of duty and patriotism.

3. Re-Writing History Books

This is perhaps the worst attack against history that has ever taken place. Re-writing history is not only foolish, but it is dangerous.

When the truth of history is rewritten to fit the modern agenda it’s breeding grounds for tyranny and dictators. A while back I wrote a guest post for Vanessa Hall that spoke on this topic. If you missed it, you can check it out here. What I focused on was why it’s important to teach even the most terrible and harsh parts of history so that they will not be repeated in the future. I have a news flash for those who think those pieces should just be removed all together—there is a way to teach the facts without sugar coating them, but also without going into every nitty-gritty, gory detail. The balance has to be found, and ultimately the facts have to be taught or we are destined for failure.

That having been said, it is equally important that history is not rewritten to fit the socialist agenda being pushed within our country by the liberals. Today’s school books demonize America and her history in ways that blatantly go against the truth of history.

For example, one that seems to be a recurring theme is that of the Confederacy during the War Between the States. The agenda pushes the ideology that the Confederacy fought to own slaves. They couldn’t be farther from the truth. You can read my post on the Confederate flag here. We have to study the whole matter instead of believing a narrative that is being shoved at us.

Another falsehood being crammed down the throats of our school children is that America represents racism. You don’t want to get me started on this one, because I don’t put up with stupidity like that. It is very closely connected with the first issue we discussed—shaming children about their history. Are there racists in America? Yes. Just as there are racists in every country, every tribe, and every tongue in the entire world. As I have said a million times over and will continue to say, racism is not an America problem, but rather a sin problem.

“We’ve got to teach history based not on what’s in fashion, but what’s important.”

Ronald Reagan

The onslaught against history is hiding the truth from view. Instances of The Timeless Anchor—Jesus Christ—moving in history is being hidden. Make no mistake—that is strategically planned! There is an onslaught against America’s Christian heritage and foundations, because Satan is seeking to destroy us. Where Jesus Christ is not welcome, there can only be oppression. Jesus Christ always brings freedom. Why is it that you have never seen believers through the annals of time waging reigns of terror against those who don’t believe the way we do? It’s because we believe that true belief in Christ has to come of a free will, and not a forced decision.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:32

We believe in freedom because it is what Jesus Christ gives to us when we are born again.

It is so important, now more than ever before, that we teach history to the next generations. Shoot, we need to teach it to our own generations, because the war against history has been being waged for many years. It’s up to us, the adults, to ensure that our children are being taught to be thinkers and patriots, and to understand the truth of history. Don’t trust your child’s education to some public school teacher! Teach them yourselves. Make sure that they are being given the education they need to have.

If history is lost, we will have no hope for the future. Not only does it teach us to learn from the mistakes, but it also encourages us with the victories and miracles of the past! We serve the same God that the Israelites served in the Old Testament. We serve the same God who our first patriots (who happened to be Baptists by the way) trusted in and Who’s Word they built an entire nation upon. We have to know history in order to fully appreciate who He is and how He moves.

Please, please, please, teach the young ones in your life history. It is your responsibility! It’s entrusted to your care.

“Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day…If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”

Thomas Jefferson

“The best means of forming a manly, virtuous, and happy people will be found in the right education of youth. Without this foundation, every other means, in my opinion, must fail.”

George Washington

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter! Let me know in the comments!
